How To Create Linux Manjaro Bootable USB Drive with Rufus

Creating a bootable USB for Manjaro Linux is a straightforward process, allowing you to install or run the operating system without affecting your current setup. Follow this guide to prepare your USB drive with Rufus.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A USB flash drive (8 GB or higher)
  • The Manjaro ISO file (downloaded from the official Manjaro website)
  • The Rufus application (available for free online)

Important: The USB drive will be formatted, erasing all existing data. Backup any important files before proceeding.

Step-by-Step Guide

Download Rufus

  • Open your browser and search for Rufus.
  • Navigate to the official Rufus website and scroll down to the download section.
  • Choose either the Standard or Portable version (both work the same).

Insert and Select the USB Drive

  • Connect your USB drive to the computer.
  • Open Rufus, then under Device, select your USB drive.

Select the Manjaro ISO File

  • Under Boot Selection, click Select and locate the downloaded Manjaro ISO file.

Choose the Partition Scheme & Target System

  • Partition Scheme: Select GPT or MBR, depending on your system requirements.

Target System:

  • BIOS if using MBR
  • UEFI if using GPT

Start the Process

  • Keep the remaining settings as default.
  • Click Start, then confirm the recommended options by clicking OK.

Handling the ISOHybrid Image Message

If you see an “ISOHybrid Image Detected” message, simply click Start. This means the USB will support both BIOS and UEFI boot modes.

Note: The USB drive will not be visible in File Explorer after formatting—this is normal.

Once the process is complete, boot your system from the USB drive. You’re now ready to install or run Manjaro Linux smoothly!
