Want to reduce power usage or improve privacy when stepping away from your PC? Here's how to fine-tune idle behavior on Windows 11 in just a few clicks.
Press Windows Key + I or right-click the Start button and choose Settings.
In the left pane, go to System > Power.
Click Screen, Sleep & Hibernate timeouts.
Adjust the time settings for:
Screen: how long your display stays on while idle.
Sleep: when your device enters low-power mode.
Hibernate: when the system saves memory to disk before fully powering down.
Note: If Hibernate isn’t available on your device, see our guide on enabling it: How to Enable or Disable Hibernate in Windows 11.
Taking a minute to configure these options boosts efficiency and helps keep your device secure when unattended.
