How To Create Linux Fedora 42 Bootable USB Drive with Rufus

Setting up a bootable USB for Fedora Linux is a simple process that ensures you can install the OS efficiently. Here’s how to create a Fedora 42 bootable USB using Rufus.

To begin, you'll need a USB flash drive with at least 8GB of storage, the Linux Fedora ISO file, and the Rufus application. If you haven't downloaded the ISO yet, check out our guide on downloading Fedora 42.

Steps to Create a Bootable USB

Backup Your USB Drive – Since formatting will erase all contents, make sure to save important files elsewhere.

Download Rufus – Open your preferred browser, search for Rufus, and visit the official website. Scroll to the Download section and choose between the Standard or Portable version.

Insert the USB Drive – Connect your USB to the computer and launch Rufus.

Configure Rufus –

Under Device, select your USB drive.

Under Boot Selection, click Select and choose the Linux Fedora ISO file.

In Partition Scheme, select either GPT or MBR based on your system’s requirements.

The Target System will be BIOS for MBR and UEFI for GPT.

Start the Process – Keep the default settings, click Start, confirm the recommended options, and proceed by clicking OK.

Wait for Completion – Rufus will format and write the ISO onto your USB drive. Once completed, your bootable Fedora 42 USB is ready to use.

Now that your bootable USB is set up, you can proceed with installing Fedora 42 hassle-free.
