Looking to install openSUSE? Whether you're opting for Tumbleweed's rolling updates or Leap's stable environment, here's a quick guide to downloading the official ISO file.
openSUSE is a free, open-source Linux distribution developed by the openSUSE Project. It comes in two variations:
- Tumbleweed – a rolling release for cutting-edge updates.
- Leap – a stable release sourced from SUSE Linux Enterprise.
Both offer KDE Plasma, GNOME, and Xfce desktop environments and use Zypper as their package manager.
Downloading openSUSE ISO
Open your browser and search for openSUSE, then go to the official website.
Choose between Tumbleweed or Leap and click Install.
Navigate to Download, select your version, and pick either the Offline Image or Network Image.
Click Download to begin.
Choosing the Right Image
The Offline Image is recommended as it includes most packages and doesn’t require an internet connection during installation.
The Network Image is ideal for those with limited bandwidth, as it only downloads selected packages, reducing file size significantly.
Once you click download, a window will appear asking where to save the file. Modify the file name if needed, then hit Save — and your openSUSE ISO will start downloading.
