Wake on LAN (WoL) allows your computer to power on remotely via a network signal, making it a valuable feature for remote access. Here’s how to enable or disable it through your BIOS settings.
Enabling Wake on LAN
- Enter your computer’s BIOS or UEFI settings by restarting and pressing the appropriate key (usually Del, F2, or F12).
- Switch to Advanced Mode and navigate to the Advanced tab.
- Click on APM Configuration (or equivalent power management settings).
- Disable ERP Ready (if your motherboard supports it).
- Enable Power on by PCI-E to allow network-based wake signals.
Disabling Wake on LAN
- Return to the BIOS or UEFI settings.
- Locate Power on by PCI-E in the APM Configuration section.
- Set it to Disabled to turn off the feature.
Wake on LAN is a powerful tool for remote access, but disabling it can enhance security and prevent unintended power-ups.
