Wake on LAN (WoL) allows your network adapter to remotely wake up your computer using a network signal. If you need to enable or disable this feature, follow these steps to adjust your settings.
Enabling Wake on LAN
- Press Win Key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type ncpa.cpl and hit Enter to open the Network Connections window.
- Right-click your Ethernet connection and select Properties.
- In the Properties window, click Configure.
- Navigate to the Advanced tab and enable the following settings (availability may vary based on your network adapter):
- Enable PME
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet when system is off
- Switch to the Power Management tab and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Disabling Wake on LAN
- Follow the same steps to access your Ethernet Properties.
- Locate the Advanced tab and set Wake on Magic Packet, Wake on Magic Packet when system is off, and Enable PME to Disabled.
Wake on LAN can be an excellent feature for remote access, but disabling it may help improve security and prevent unintended wake-ups.
