How To Set Power Mode in Windows 10

Optimizing your PC’s power mode helps strike the right balance between battery life and system responsiveness. Windows 10 offers two built-in ways to adjust this setting.

Adjust Power Mode via Windows Settings

Press Windows Key + I, or right-click the Start button and choose Settings.

Go to System > Power & sleep.

Find the Power mode slider and choose your preference:

Best Energy Saving – Prioritizes battery life; ideal for portable use.

Balanced – Suits everyday tasks with moderate performance.

Best Performance – Enhances responsiveness; suited for gaming or editing.

Adjust Power Mode via Control Panel

Press Windows Key + R, type powercfg.cpl, and hit Enter.

Under Preferred Plans, select:

Power Saver

Balanced

High Performance

Note: Choosing Power Saver or High Performance disables the power mode slider in Settings. Only Balanced keeps both interfaces in sync.

Once applied, Windows automatically adjusts resource usage based on your selection — delivering either extended battery life or boosted system speed.
