Managing applications efficiently is essential for smooth workflow. Windows 11 introduced a convenient feature that allows users to end tasks directly from the taskbar without opening Task Manager. Here’s how you can enable or disable this option.
Steps to Enable or Disable End Task in Taskbar
- Open Settings
Right-click the Start menu and select Settings, or press Windows Key + I.
- Navigate to System
In the Settings menu, click on System.
- Access Developer Options
Scroll down and select the For Developers tab.
- Toggle End Task
Locate the End Task switch and toggle it on or off depending on your preference.
Update: starting with Windows 11 version 25H2, Microsoft replaced the old For Developers page in Settings with a new page called Advanced.
Availability
This feature is available starting with Windows 11 version 23H2. Once enabled, you can right-click on any app in the taskbar and select End Task to close it instantly, without needing to launch Task Manager.
Windows 11 continues to add features that streamline everyday tasks. The End Task option in the taskbar is a small but powerful addition that saves time and improves usability.
